Description: Tackling the college admissions essay can be a stressful task, but it doesn’t have to be. In this two-hour workshop, attendees will receive hands-on experience deconstructing successful college admissions essays, an introduction to the common app application essay prompts, and the opportunity to begin brainstorming and outlining a prompt of their choosing.
College-Ready: Demystifying Undergraduate Research Expectations

Description: For many students, making the jump from completing high-school essays to college-level term papers can be a difficult process. In this session, we’ll discuss the best ways to prepare for this transition by understanding college-level research expectations, integrating simple and advanced strategies for managing a research project, and applying efficient database and catalog search techniques.
Demystifying Online Degree Programs for New or Returning Adult Students

In this session, we’ll discuss finding and enrolling in accredited online programs as well as developing or honing important skills (technology, information seeking, time-management, etc.) necessary for the timely completion of your degree program.

Making the Most of Your MLIS
Audience: Newly Enrolled or First-Semester MLIS Students
Duration: 1 Hour

Description: While earning an MLIS can be an exciting undertaking, it can also be fraught with uncertainty. What classes should I take? Should I pursue a specialization? What can I do now to ensure I have a successful internship and/or thesis/capstone experience? In this session, MLS students will gain confidence in answering these questions for themselves by developing personalized skills-and-knowledge prioritization matrices. Attendees will learn how to construct a skills-and-knowledge prioritization matrix utilizing current job advertisements and apply the matrix in selecting courses and professional development opportunities . Attendees will also be guided through utilizing the matrix to communicate desired outcomes to internship hosts and/or in identifying thesis/capstone topics.
Making the Most of Your Volunteer and/or Internship Experience
Audience: Second- and Early Third-Semester MLIS Students

Description: These days, even entry-level librarian positions require some form of experience. This is why volunteer work and internships completed during library school can make or break the job-search experience post-MLS. In this session, we will discuss maximizing your volunteer and/or internship experience by discussing strategies for identifying internship/volunteer sites, successfully pitching the internship/volunteer requests, communicating desired outcomes with internship/volunteer hosts, documenting accomplishments, and professionally closing out the intern/volunteer experience.
Crafting a Compelling Curriculum Vitae/Résumé and Cover Letter
Audience: Second-,Third-, and Final-Semester MLIS Students; Recent Graduates

Description: Want to craft compelling application materials that lead to first- and second-round interviews? The key is customization. Unfortunately, many library job hunters skip this step believing it to be too time-intensive to be of value. In this session, we will discuss the importance of customizing application materials for each position, the differences between a CV and résumé (and when to use which), the relationship between the CV/résumé and cover letter, and how to develop an experience bank to make customizing the CV/résumé and cover letter quick and easy.
